Leesburg, VA (November 15, 2016) – On their way to the 4A West regional championship the Loudoun County Raiders had faced little resistance. After Millbrook, who took two games in the quarterfinal, the Raiders had not lost a single set. Surely, this state semi-final matchup with the Courtland Cougars would be different.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted this gallery from the match.
You could tell that Loudoun County was on their game even in warmups. Practice hits were going straight down with speed and power, bumps and sets were accurate and apace. And the first set was a reflection of that as the Raiders won easily, 25-10.
The Cougars made a game of it in the second set surging ahead early and then again midway through the period. But the Raiders poured it on to close out the set, 25-18. Loudoun County was just too strong as the third set looked more like the first with the Raiders winning easily, 25-14.
Loudoun County will meet Jamestown on Saturday, November 19, for the 4A State Championship, a rematch of the 2015 final.
