2016.11.12 Volleyball: Briar Woods @ Tuscarora, 5A North Final

Leesburg, VA (November 12, 2016) – During the volleyball regular season, the Briar Woods Falcons had the upper hand, winning twice over the Tuscarora Huskies in four sets each time. But the tables were turned in the first round of the Conference 14 tournament, as Tuscarora won, 3-0, igniting a run all the way to the 5A North regional final. Their championship opponent? You guessed it, Briar Woods.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted this gallery from the match.

Each team won a set with a 25-20 score, and it quickly looked like the evening was heading to a full length match. Briar woods took the third set, 26-24, but that one could have gone either way. The Falcons had the momentum, but the Huskies were confident from their playoff success so no panic set in.

5A North Champions

Cool and concentrated, Tuscarora stayed steady in the fourth set bolstered by the boisterous home crowd to tie it up at two sets apiece. In the deciding set, Tuscarora got the first two points, but the teams pulled even at five apiece. From that point on, it was all Falcon orange. Briar Woods scored ten straight points to close out the match and the region.

Both teams advanced to the state tournament. Briar Woods will host Deep Run on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:00pm. At the same time, Tuscarora will travel to Princess Anne. The possibility is real that the two teams could meet for the fifth time and this time with the state championship on the line.
