South Riding, VA (April 17, 2018) – As usual, during this cold spring season, players and fans alike were dressed to stay warm. But anticipation stoked the fire in both dugouts as the seventh-ranked Stone Bridge Bulldogs travelled to face the ninth-ranked Freedom Eagles.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
The Bulldogs hit the ground running in the first inning as Victoria Percherke knocked in two runs and scored herself. Freedom's Abigail Mills walked and scored on a series of steals and throwing errors, but Stone Bridge led 3-1.
In the third, Stone Bridge again moved the line as a series of singles brought in two more runs. Freedom had two runners on with no outs, but couldn't advance either one and the Bulldogs extended the margin to 5-1.
A double, single and triple--and two RBI for Valbek--broke the game wide open in the fourth inning. Catcher Madeline Carpe hit the left field fence and brought in two more runs for the visitors as they expanded their lead to 12-1.
The Eagles' best scoring production came in the final inning as they added two runs to their total, but the Bulldogs had done the same for a resounding 14-3 victory.
Final score: Stone Bridge 14 - Freedom 3
