2017.05.11 Boys Soccer: Riverside @ Park View

Sterling, VA (May 11, 2017) – The Riverside Rams entered the game confidently behind an unblemished 14-0-2 regular season record. Their test would be against the Park View Patriots, the 2016 4A State Champions also sporting an outstanding record at 11-2-0. The match might not matter much in terms of playoff seeding, but it certainly would give both teams a good sense of where they are.

Before the game was even ten minutes old, the Rams were ahead 2-0 on goals by freshman Roddy Hairston. On wet turf, the Patriots were unable to clear corner kicks effectively, and the ensuing scrambles led to the deficit.

Battling in the Rain

Subbing starters into the match shortly thereafter, Park View was able to tilt the field back toward the Riverside goal a bit, but their few good scoring chances went wanting as the first half ended.

Surely, the Patriots would get back in it when the second half began, but the run of play was about the same as both teams battled for control at midfield. Late in the half, however, on another crossing ball that was not well cleared, the Rams' Chris Castro found the left side of the net wide open and put the game out of reach.

Final score: Riverside 3 - Park View 0.
