Final Score: Loudoun County 3 - John Champe 2
The first half of this match was uneventful. Neither team threatened to score, but the Knights clearly had more possession and some momentum as the teams went to halftime knotted at 0-0.
Everything changed after the restart. Fifteen minutes in, the Raiders were leading 2-0 on goals by Allison Brown. The first came off of a great cross from Caroline Ponticelli, and the second was started by a picture perfect pass from Taylor Kibble. Since goals were so hard to come by, some teams might have given up at that point, but not Champe.
With about ten minutes remaining the score was suddenly tied as Blair Thompson crushed a 25-yard free kick into the back of the net and then followed it up with a 30-yard solo shot that also beat the Loudoun County goalkeeper. Game on.
It looked like the game was headed to overtime when Caroline Ponticelli found a rebound and sent it home for the win. Loudoun County advances, John Champe finishes a great season.
