Lansdowne, VA (May 19, 2017) – Thursday night's postponement meant an early start for Friday's semifinal matchup between the Loudoun Valley Vikings, who got there by defeating the Heritage Pride in the play-in game, and the Riverside Rams, the top seed.
Surprisingly, the Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Rams clawed back to make it 3-2 as the first quarter ended and the rain began. The storm meant that Loudoun Valley could enjoy the lead for the next ninety minutes. But that was the only enjoyment they would get from this match.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
When the game restarted, Riverside scored immediately to tie it up, but Loudoun Valley scored again to take the back the lead once more. After that, it was all Rams, all the time.
By the midpoint it was 11-5 courtesy of a 7-1 Riverside run. The home team added six more goals in the third quarter before going into a possession game for most of the last period. Riverside advanced to the Dulles West final where they will host Loudoun County.
Final score: Riverside 17 - Loudoun Valley 5.
