05.25.18 Girls Lacrosse: Riverside @ Dominion, Region 4C Final

Sterling, VA (May 25, 2018) – By virtue of their presence in this championship game, the Dominion Titans and the Riverside Rams were already assured of slots in the state tournament. But the outcome was for more than seeding because the winner would get bragging rights in Loudoun County for the next year.

Just three weeks ago these two teams had played a tight match on a wet early-May evening, and Dominion was able to eke out a win, 12-11, on a last minute goal. It wouldn't be surprising at all if the Rams came in with revenge on their minds.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

Riverside started fast and hard and put the Titans immediately on their heals. The visitors forced play into the Dominion defensive end relentlessly and suddenly had a surprising 8-2 lead forcing a Titan timeout. Four of those Riverside goals were scored by Bryn McCaughey who was absolutely unstoppable.

But Dominion hadn't earned their top seed and undefeated status for nothing. With ten minutes remaining in the first half they suddenly got their feet under them and reeled off six straight goals to tie the score. Game on.

It looked like all of the momentum had switched to the home side, but then two things happened that switched it back. First, Riverside's Sydney Ash scored in the last minute to give the Rams the lead at the break. Second, shortly after the second half began Dominion lost Tierney Schaible--a critical contributor with two goals in that six-goal streak--to an injury. The Titan attack would still be potent, but that loss was just enough to change the nature of the second half competely.

From that point on, both defenses stiffened up, but Riverside's was almost impenetrable. Dominion would only score once in the second half, but the Rams would add five more including three straight from Lilly Boswell. Riverside will represent Region 4C as the top seed while Dominion will be the runner-up.

Final score: Riverside 14 - Dominion 9
