Aldie, VA (May 1, 2018) – Between them, Briar Woods and John Champe boys lacrosse teams had lost one game in this spring season. The Falcons only blemish came against 2017 state champion Riverside to set their record at 9-1. The Knights were 10-0, and only had one game that could be called a close win, and that came in a 7-6 victory over Loudoun County.
With the season winding down, this one would be a true test for both teams.

Surprisingly, the home-standing Knights were caught off-guard as the visiting Falcons bolted to a three-goal lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter. Champe would cut the margin to 3-1, on a goal by Dalton Young--who would lead the Knights with three goals for the game--but Briar Woods would surge again to take a 7-3 lead at halftime.
While Champe would continue to chip away at the Briar Woods lead in the second half, they could never quite overcome that initial deficit. The Falcons consistent and creative attack was led by Nick Romano (four goals), and always had an answer when they needed it.
When the Knights' Noah Hill scored at the beginning of the fourth quarter they were as close as they had been all game at 10-8, and the next five minutes were the most thrilling of the night. But with perfect symmetry the Falcons added three unmatched goals to pull away and seal a huge victory, 13-8.
Final score: Briar Woods 13 - John Champe 8
