2018.09.11 Field Hockey: Heritage @ Briar Woods

Potomac Falls, VA (September 11, 2018) – The Briar Woods Falcons and Heritage Pride entered this misty evening match with one loss between them so far this season. The only blemish was a Falcons loss to the powerful Riverside Rams.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

Perhaps a bit surprisingly, Briar Woods dominated the first ten minutes of the match. And they made that status very clear when Hannah Hooper scored to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. This turn of events prompted Pride coach Derek Ryan to immediately call a timeout. Below the overcast skies, he could be heard calmly asking his team whether they would decide to show up or not.

That dramatic encouragement may have been a a bit overstated as the Pride had been playing pretty hard. But Briar Woods had just been playing harder, it seemed. Nonetheless, the early timeout and the well-timed coaching prompt did the trick for Heritage as they scored three times in the next seven minutes to take a commanding 3-1 lead at halftime.

Two of those goals came from the irrepressible and opportunistic Sydney Krieger, who crushed one shot and batted a ball out of the air and into the net for her second tally.

Virtually the moment the second half began Krieger scored again and that seemed to take the wind out from under the Falcons' wings. The Pride attacker would finish things off with one more tally for a total of four of the five goals scored by Heritage.

The Pride earned a great win over a solid Briar Woods team, and will turn right around to immediately face another strong opponent in Stone Bridge.

Final score: Heritage 5 - Briar Woods 1
