Leesburg, VA (October 13, 2017) – A few weeks ago, the Heritage Pride football team was struggling to find this season's identity. Coming off a home loss to Dominion, they were 3-2 and securely in the middle of the 4A Region C pack. But they had won two in a row since then and tonight they were supported by a raucous homecoming crowd.
On the other side of the field, the Riverside Rams were reeling a bit. A promising season started off 3-1, but three straight losses had the visitors trying to resurrect that early excitement.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
On the first play from scrimmage, the Pride showed that they had come to play. After completing a beautiful downfield bomb they scored a play later to take a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the opening quarter.
But the Rams stabilized quickly. They were unable to score in the first half, but they kept Heritage from scoring until right before the break. A 14-0 lead for the Pride seemed bigger than it was because Riverside's offense had not really been close to scoring. The Rams defense had been solid, though, and they were still in the game.
When play resumed, the Pride again scored quickly and pretty much sealed the win on the first drive of the third quarter. Although the Rams scored a late touchdown there never was any doubt that Heritage had secured a third straight victory.
Final score: Heritage 28 - Riverside 7
