Ashburn, VA (September 1, 2017) – There's a youth movement going on at Rock Ridge. Led by new head coach Bobby Lalli, the team sports just twelve seniors on a combined JV/Varsity roster of seventy-six. On the other sideline, Heritage is led by twenty seniors of about seventy players.
But in the key position, the Pride's quarterback is young Brett Johnson, a sophomore. So, even with an experience advantage overall for Heritage, each game is a test for the young starter.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
And Johnson did not disappoint as he led his team to victory for the second straight week.
The Phoenix scored first, but their excitement was short-lived as Heritage came back to tie it up 7-7 as the first quarter ended.
And then the Pride roared to life scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter and completely dominating the game, which was all but over by halftime.
Rock Ridge would score once in the third, but by that time the Pride was on cruise control and focused on ball security and time management. Neither team would score again as the visitors headed for home undefeated for the young season.
Final score: Heritage 35 - Rock Ridge 14.
