09.28.18 Football: Dominion @ Riverside

Leesburg, VA (September 28, 2018) – As mid-season approaches, teams are beginning to separate from the pack. With a win tonight, the visiting Dominion Titans (3-2) and the host Riverside Rams (4-1) could each join the list of contenders among Loudoun County high school football programs.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

The Rams were going to need to recover from a 28-0 thrashing from Loudoun County, one of this season's legitimate powerhouses. On the other side, the Titans had a chance to build upon their solid 21-14 win over a resilient Heritage squad.

The game started like this: Dominion fumbles on the first play and loses their momentum; Riverside scores on the second play and finds theirs. A gorgeous pass from Trevor Jackson to Vince Speroni put the Rams ahead, 7-0.

But even with a packed and Ram-paging student section roaring in their ears, the Titans bounced back. Just a few seconds into the second quarter, Dominion's John Hayes hauled in a pass from AJ Darr to tie the score, 7-7. The Titan sideline was brimming with confidence, but could they sustain it?

Halfway through the second quarter they got their answer. Riverside would go ahead for good when the diminutive and determined Isaiah Bryant ran it in for the first of his two touchdowns.

And Bryant expanded the Rams' 14-7 halftime lead to fourteen points midway through the third quarter, effectively sealing the victory. Dominion never gave up, but they would not score again.

Jackson would put the game away for good with a running touchdown early in the final quarter.

Final score: Riverside 27 - Dominion 7
