Ashburn, VA (September 17, 2018) – As the season begins to move past the opening few weeks, teams are starting to find their identities. The look that the Heritage Pride has found is that of a dynamic offensive juggernaut. They seem to grow more fine-tuned in each game they play, and their opponent tonight, the Freedom Eagles, was going to have to come up large to even have a chance.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
A recent trend for the Pride has been scoring quickly and putting the other team on their heals right away. That happened again as Josie Rossbach scored the first of her three goals just four minutes into the match. By the time the two teams reached the twenty minute mark, the Pride had opened up a commanding 5-0 lead, a sign of complete and utter dominance.
But give the Eagles credit, they refused to give up. After that fifth Heritage goal, Myra Yousefi took a wicked ricocheting shot that found the back of the Pride net and made the score a bit more competitive.
That momentum lasted all of about five minutes, and then the Heritage onslaught resumed in earnest. By the time the halftime whistle sounded they had scored four more goals, had opened up a 9-1 lead, and had begun subbing out their starters.
Heritage was led by Rossbach and Sydney Krieger, who scored three goals each. They were joined by Lindsey Blythe, an opportunistic sophomore who always seems to be in the right place at the right time--and that meant three goals of her own tonight
Final score: Heritage 9 - Freedom 1
