Potomac Falls, VA (September 11, 2018) – It's always a good match when cross-town rivals meet, and that goes for games between the Dominion Titans and the Potomac Falls Panthers.
Both teams have had some early season field hockey success. The Titans, 2-3 entering the game, were looking for an identity, while the host Panthers were gaining confidence with a singular loss to the hot Heritage Pride.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
From the outset, the majority of the play was in the Dominion defensive end. In fact, the Titans did not register a shot until twelve minutes remained--in the second half. For the most part, the Potomac Falls defense was under no duress whatsoever while the Dominion defenders felt constant and intense pressure. Due credit should go to Titan goalie Hannah Johnston, who kept the attacking Panthers at bay for the first quarter of the game.
The match was essentially decided when Potomac Falls scored three times in a five-minute first half span. Hope Palmer was the first to hit the Titans' backboard, and her goal was followed by two from Abby Asuncion as the Panthers cruised into halftime with a big 3-0 cushion.
After the break, Dominion again showed strong defensive play as they bent, but did not break behind the midfield leadership of Maddie Beal. But Asuncion and Natalie Brennan would each score in the final five minutes of the game to wrap a dominant win for Potomac Falls
Final score: Potomac Falls 5 - Dominion 0
