South Riding, VA (September 12, 2017) – The regular occurrence of double-headers has had the nice effect of creating a field hockey community and a camaraderie that spans across teams and schools in Loudoun County. And, on a beautiful late summer afternoon, the Freedom Eagles hosted the Dominion Titans for the first half of another twinbill.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
From the outset of this game, Dominion had the edge. They controlled the run of play and kept Freedom in their defensive end. In fact, it's likely that the Eagles did not have a single shot before halftime. On the other hand, the Titans had several good opportunities and two resulted in goals, both by Jordan Pourhashemi, to make the halftime lead, 2-0.
Freedom got it together during the break and definitely made a better showing in the second half. Pourhashemi scored again early in the period, but then the Eagles awakened behind the furious play of Sally Steppling. Her hustle and aggressiveness resulted in a goal and team-wide rejuvenation, but it was too little, too late as the Titans went on to victory.
Final score: Dominion 3 - Freedom 1.
