Sterling, VA (August 31, 2017) – Playing their first ever field hockey home game, and with a small but loud and supportive crowd behind them, the Park View Patriots took the pitch brimming with confidence. They could hardly contain their excitement as ear-to-ear grins spread across each face during player introductions.
On the other side stood the experienced Potomac Falls Panthers wondering what all of the excitement was about as they entered the game with a workmanlike, no-nonsense approach. They weren't taking the home team for granted, but they knew they had a season's worth of experience in their favor.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Although the game ended midway through the second half due to the size of the Panther lead, the Patriots did not go quietly. Their defense was solid, if not spectacular for a brand new team, and their goalkeepers turned away many a strong Potomac Falls shot.
Led by Abby Asuncion's three goals, and two apiece from Olivia Garrett and Serena Farmer, Potomac Falls steadily built up an insurmountable lead and was able to get everyone some playing time before the match was called.
In a way, the match was encouraging for both teams. The Panthers won a game they should have--with no stress on their defense, and the Patriots made an exuberant showing in front of an appreciative home crowd.
Final score: Potomac Falls 7 - Park View 0.
