Ashburn, VA (August 31, 2016) – Perhaps it's because field hockey is not fully funded this year, but the multitude of double-headers is a great way to introduce this new sport to the Loudoun County community. Watching four teams in action on any given night allows spectators (and photographers) to gain insight into the game and understand its unique nuances.
Game 1: Woodgrove 5 - Broad Run 1
Broad Run had been competitive in their first three matches, but had yet to score a goal. Woodgrove, on the other hand, had scored 22 goals in their first five games. At first, the run of play was fairly balanced, but then the Wolverines went on a tear and scored five in a row before halftime.
All Woodgrove needed was one second half goal to apply the "mercy rule," but the Spartans were not about to let that happen and shut the scoring down. And, finally, the scoreless drought ended with the first ever Broad Run field hockey goal.
