Ashburn, VA (November 1, 2018) – With spots in the state championships on the line, the VHSL Region 5C teams from Loudoun County were out in full force on an unseasonably warm November day. Anyone hoping to go to the ultimate race next weekend, was going to have to push through the discomfort brought on by the unusual weather. It wasn't stifling, but, after all, the likelihood of cool weather is the main reason they run marathons this time of year.
As opposed to the Region 4C meet, this version was not completely dominated by one school as Loudoun Valley had just the day before. In fact, all eight LCPS teams participating had at least one top 15 runner. Ellie Desmond was the winner in the girls race, and Juan Moscoso finished first in the boys run.
From a team perspective, Briar Woods was the big winner qualifying to run at Great Meadow in both the girls and the boys races. Tuscarora and Rock Ridge will join the girls teams, and Freedom and Stone Bridge will join the boys.
Many runners and teams were gearing up for the state meet, but for some this was their last time to compete this year--and perhaps in their careers--and they gave it their all.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the races.
