Purcellville, VA (September 23, 2017) – As happened at the Oatlands Invitational, the morning began as part of a beautiful fall weekend. Perfect conditions for a cross country race on an excellent course at Woodgrove High School.
The varsity races went off without a hitch, and included the expected Loudoun Valley domination, but as each of the six races finished the temperatures rose leaving the least experienced runners with the most difficult challenges.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the meet.
I traditionally photograph this sport well out on the courses to avoid the crowds and to try to capture unique perspectives. This also gives me a vantage point from which to observe the beginning of every race from a distance. In all six races, the front was dressed in green and gold.
There were forty-seven elite performances with each team getting at least one. Loudoun Valley had more than a third of those, however, with seventeen individual runners achieving that goal. Tuscarora also had excellent results with nine runners reaching elite status.
Loudoun Valley's dominance was further clarified by looking at individual and team results. They won all six team competitions and captured the top spot in every race:
- Varsity Boys: Peter Morris 15:10.60
- Varsity Girls: Natalie Morris 17:49.20
- JV Upperclassmen Boys: Brayden Cassidy 16:39.1
- JV Upperclassmen Girls: Caroline Bolen 20:25.2
- JV Underclassmen Boys: Kellen Hasle 16:29.7
- JV Underclassmen Girls: Abby Keane 20:30.9
