2018.02.14 Girls Basketball: Stone Bridge @ Freedom, Potomac District Semifinal

South Riding, VA (February 14, 2018) – Given the way the last half of the season had gone, it wouldn't be a surprise if the second-seeded Freedom Eagles waltzed through the District tournament. After dropping a holiday tournament game to Liberty, Freedom hadn't lost a game in 2018 and none of those wins were even close.

The only question would be whether the Stone Bridge Bulldogs could provide a challenge in this matchup and make an unexpected advance to the tournament final.

The answer was no.

Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.

Behind a completely stifling defense, the Eagles simply outpaced, outhustled, outworked and outshot the Bulldogs. For a while it seemed that every coordinated offensive play resulted in a layup for Brenna Haley, but soon the scoring was evenly spread.

Stone Bridge's Madison Jolly did her best to bring the ball out of the backcourt, but she was repeatedly thwarted by the dual Eagle wingspans of Jaelyn Batts and Kamryn Meador. The unselfish and efficient teamwork that had been the season's hallmark was on full display as Coach Teddy Whitney gave playing time to just about everyone on the Freedom roster.

Stone Bridge ends a solid season, but they were simply no match for one of the hottest teams in the region. Freedom now heads to the championship and a huge rematch with the Tuscarora Huskies.

Final score: Freedom 61 - Stone Bridge 24
