Ashburn, VA (December 28, 2017) – Hoping to change their results from the previous night, the Rock Ridge Phoenix got off to a better, faster start. They were playing a familiar opponent in the Heritage Pride, and both teams were coming off a tournament-opening loss.
Heritage took the early lead, but the Phoenix rallied to pull within one point, 14-13, halfway through the second quarter. But then the Pride went on a tear to take a 22-13 halftime lead.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Rock Ridge found their way back into it again in the third quarter ignited by two three pointers from Kendall Spohr. After the Phoenix closed the gap to 30-24, the Pride opened it right back up to close out the third quarter leading 34-26.
Rock Ridge continued to battle, but the Pride managed to sustain their lead. After an intentional foul was called on Rock Ridge's Olivia Ouimet with about a minute remaining in the game, the Pride's Kayren Gaither calmly sank two free throws to finally put the game out of reach.
Final score: Heritage 49 - Rock Ridge 34
