Ashburn, VA (December 29, 2017) – By the time the Jefferson Cougars had scored their first basket, the Freedom Eagles' Jalyn Scales had nine and Rose Burnham had six. And that was not all of what amounted to a 16-2 lead with a minute left in the first quarter.
By halftime, the game was completely out of reach. Scales had doubled her total, and the team had taken a huge 35-7 lead. The Cougars had a better second period, but it was simply not close to the offense Freedom was producing.

After halftime, Jefferson would actually do a better job of defending. Scales would not score again, but the Cougars' defensive adjustment left gaps that the rest of the Eagles easily filled--creating a more balanced yet still potent scoring attack. Freedom outscored Jefferson in the third period, 10-2, and so the rout continued.
With six minutes remaining in the game, Freedom's head coach Teddy Whitney substituted the entire lineup, but the team never skipped a beat and advanced the lead to over forty points as time expired. Freedom ends the tournament in firm control of third place.
Final score: Freedom 54 - Jefferson 11
