Ashburn, VA (December 28, 2017) – The Yorktown Patriots opened the game with a balanced scoring attack and relentless physical defense. Unnerved at first, the Briar Woods Falcons held their own and finished the first quarter down just 13-10.
The Falcons had clearly figured out the Patriots' press, but their shooting accuracy was not enough to take advantage. Yorktown was better, but only slightly, as they extended their lead at halftime to 23-17.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
In their best quarter of the tournament so far, Briar Woods inched back into the game and actually tied it up at 25-25. But the Patriots, powered by thirteen third quarter points from Maggie Shipley, surged ahead to take a commanding lead as the period ended, 35-27.
The final quarter belonged to Yorktown as they nearly doubled their lead. Shipley would finish the game with twenty points, and the team would finish with a solid win.
Final score: Yorktown 49 - Briar Woods 35
