2017.12.08 Girls Basketball: Briar Woods @ Rock Ridge

Ashburn, VA (December 8, 2017) – Toughened up from a game earlier in the week against Heritage, the Briar Woods Falcons came out ready to play. With consistent shooting and solid defense--and three three-pointers from Ashton Keilholtz--they dominated the Rock Ridge Phoenix on their home court. The first quarter score of 10-5 was a good reflection of the nature of this game in the early-going.

Compelled to play harder by their fans on this night of five rivalry games between the cross-town rivals, the Phoenix came back in the second quarter and completely erased the Falcons lead. Briar Woods maintained an edge at halftime, but just barely at 16-14.

Unfortunately, whatever was behind that surge completely disappeared in the third quarter. Briar Woods again dominated and extended their lead by another nine points while Rock Ridge could only muster two points of their own in the entire period.

It was more of the same in the fourth quarter with the Falcons pulling even further away. But Phoenix guard Ashley Dean would not let them go that easily. Consistently, and aggressively, she attacked the basket making baskets and forcing Briar Woods to foul, and at the foul line she didn't miss many.

Although the outcome was never truly in jeopardy, the Falcons, who had already begun to rest their starters, were forced to bring them back in to ensure the win. Briar Woods would leave with a solid win, and the Phoenix could know that they never gave up the fight.

Final score: Briar Woods 46 - Rock Ridge 36
