Leesburg, VA (January 12, 2017) – Coming into the game, both Loudoun County (13-1) and Riverside (8-3) were at the top of their respective conferences so this matchup had some potential for excitement. Could the Rams, a top 3A team, knock off the home-standing Raiders, a top 4A team riding a twelve game winning streak?
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
A quick look at the Riverside roster gave a possible answer. No seniors and only three juniors dressed for the visitors. But while Loudoun County has three powerhouse starters in Emily Miller, Julia Ng and Natalie Villaflor, they are also very young and perhaps just a bit surprising this season.
The Rams smartly hung in there for the first half under extreme pressure from the Raider press. They were down at the intermission, but not out. However, the Loudoun County fast break surged in the third quarter and broke open the game at 50-32. The last quarter was more of the same and the final score showed it, 68-37.
Expect both teams to do well in conference playoffs just a month away.
