Ashburn, VA (December 27, 2017) – When the Heritage Pride made their first basket, they cut South County's lead to one point at 3-2. But that would be as close as they would ever get as the Stallions would proceed to go on a first quarter tear and bolted out to a 22-8 lead.
In the second period, behind the hot shooting of Lauren Phelps, the Pride would get back into the game. They cut the difference to ten points, 35-25, before heading into the locker room at the break.
Chas Sumser Photography was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Powered by the indefatigable Gabbi San Diego, the Stallions opened it up again and midway through the third period led by as much as seventeen points. However, Heritage was not about to give up and again began whittling at the margin.
But just when it looked like the Pride might come all the way back, South County hit a dagger of a three-pointer as the period ended. That shot seemed to suck the life out of the Pride as the Stallions cruised through the final quarter for the victory and a spot in the tournament semifinals.
Final score: South County 64 - Heritage 46
